Discover the
beauty and excitement of the Savannah region.
You're new home is just a short drive from
the shops, restaurants and historic charm of a true American
treasure.
In 1733 General James Edward Oglethorpe
arrived here with English
settlers to establish America’s 13th colony of Georgia.
A small Indian town and trading post became Georgia’s
first city - Savannah. Over the years, it prospered as a
thriving center
for rice and cotton exports.
A diverse economy – Today,
the area thrives on a diverse combination of economic forces
including manufacturing, government,
healthcare, military and more. In fact, Savannah is home
to one of the nation’s busiest container ports and
the Savannah International Airport.
Travel and tourism – While
Savannah grows into a dynamic modern destination, it
carefully maintains its historic charm.
Its centerpiece is a 2.5-square-mile Historic District
filled with renovated homes, historic churches, museums,
lush parks
and squares.
Stroll along streets lined with azaleas and under oak
canopies heavy with Spanish moss. Visit historic buildings
along
cobblestoned River Street and City Market, now home to
shops, restaurants
and inns.
Modern amenities – Just across the
Savannah River on Hutchinson Island, you’ll find the Savannah
Harbor Resort and the Savannah International Trade and
Convention Center, completed
in 2000. South
of the Historic District are the thriving Midtown and
Southside areas with shopping malls, restaurants, business
districts, healthcare
centers and more. Sports fans can even take in a ball
game at historic Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah
Sand Gnats.
